Welcome to the Catena website!
What is Catena?
Catena is a recreative student society in Leiden. It is open to members 7 days a week.
As a member of Catena you are not obliged to do anything, except to pay your membership fee. This doesn't mean you can't do anything at Catena. It's a perfect place to experience many things, to develop yourself and to meet Dutch students. But also to enjoy your favourite drink or have a quiet conversation.
The possibilities at Catena
At our student society there are many facilities for members. We have computers with fast internet access a room for photographic development and printing where you can also print your own T-shirts, a 'mensa', where you can have a three course meal for 3 euro's (almost) every night (call the bar before 16:00 and tell the bartender if you're allergic to anything. It starts at 18:30.)
a kitchen where you can learn to cook such a three course meal for up to 40 Catena-members, a cocktail bar with low prices and good cocktails (some familiar, some exclusive to Catena)
many different beers, liquors and non-alcoholic drinks, a room to watch movies or play Wii-games on screen, a disco sound- and lightsystem, including VJ-equipment an iMac for graphic design, plus
a seperate smoking room.
You can come by to feel the atmosphere in the 'EL CID-week' or in our open week in January. If you'd like to come by on another day, just ask at the door or give us a call.
If you like Catena, you can become a member. Membership is open to all students.
How to become a member
If you want to become a member, go to Catena with your ID and find a member of the board. If you can't find them, everyone will probably lead you in the wrong direction. Keep that in mind. No, just kidding :) It's quite easy to find a member of the board, because most of the time they're in their office (first door on the right when you come in). They will give you the form, which you need to fill out.
For international students Catena-membership costs 6,25 euro's a month. This gives you the right to hang out at Catena every Monday – Friday from 14:00 'till late and every Saturday and Sunday from 21:00 'till late. You can participate in many different activities such as pub quizzes, (theme-)parties, cocktail-nights or band-evenings. You can also get acces to our computer network or join our annual world championship of 'klutswoppelen'. (if you'd like to know more, ask any Catena member.)
